Cyber Safe: 2024 best practices for alts managers on the go

In our third chapter of our cyber safe series, we’re exploring how you can keep your reputation and assets safe while on the go.

With juice jacking and device theft becoming too common, check out our top six recommendations for excellent data privacy practices while traveling:

  1. Before traveling, double-check that your devices’ antivirus and anti-malware software are up to date, and ensure you’re running the latest version of the operating system on all of them.
  2. Avoid using public charging stations, such as those in airports, when traveling domestically or internationally. Instead, opt for a wall outlet or a portable battery.
  3. Any device connected to public Wi-Fi is at risk, so limit your use of these networks. Before connecting, ensure the network name (SSID) matches the official notice for the Wi-Fi service, and use a VPN whenever possible.
  4. Avoid using shared business center PCs for work tasks, as they may lack proper security measures. If necessary, avoid entering sensitive information and ensure to log out of all accounts after use.
  5. Turn off Bluetooth when not in use to reduce the risk of unauthorized access or tracking, especially in unsecured environments.
  6. Only use company-approved file-sharing software and tools. Avoid resorting to unauthorized applications to solve IT challenges independently or perform work tasks.

Whether in-office, at home, or across the ocean, being mindful of cyber best practice is the way forward. Make sure to check out parts one and two our cyber safe series for tips in the in office and at home.
